The Inspectorate is organized and operates as a subordinate administrative body of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environmental Protection, which is authorized to exercise state supervision and control in the field of environmental protection and the use of natural resources. The Mission of the Inspectorate is the implementation of state policy in the field of environmental protection, the exercise of state control and state supervision, prevention of violations in areas of competence, and counteraction to them, for ensuring a high level of supervision and protection of the environment, public interests, environmental security of the state and other values, protected by law. The Inspectorate shall perform the following functions: (a) implementation of environmental policy; (b) protection of atmospheric air; (c) protection of water resources; (d) protection of flora, fauna and protected areas; (e) protection of land and mineral resources; (f) management of waste and chemicals; (g) rational use of natural resources; (h) prevention and suppression of offences and breach of environmental legislation; (i) planned activities; and (j) safety of work.
