Ss 1-2 of this Act enter into force on 20 October 2016. Remaining provisions on 1 March 2017.
Résumé

This Act, consisting in 51 sections divided into eight Chapters, applies the Gene Technology Act 2000 (Cwlth) and Gene Technology (Licence Charges) Act 2000 (Cwlth) as laws of Queensland. The purpose of this Act is to: a) protect the health and safety of people, and to protect the environment, by identifying risks posed by, or as a result of, gene technology; and b) manage those risks through regulating certain dealings with genetically modified organisms. The purpose is achieved by: a) applying the Commonwealth gene technology laws, as modified under this Act, as laws of Queensland; and b) making provision to help ensure the Commonwealth gene technology laws and applied provisions are administered on a uniform basis by the Commonwealth as if they constituted a single law of the Commonwealth.
