Under section 3, “the object of this Act is to protect the health and safety of people, and to protect the environment, by identifying risks posed by or as a result of gene technology, and by managing the risks by regulating certain dealings with GMOs”. Part 3 is dedicated to the gene technology regulator, its functions and powers. Part 4 concerns dealing with GMOs, Part 5 the licensing system, including application procedures and fees. Part 6 deals with dealings on the GMO register. Part 7 deals with certification and accreditation, Part 8 states the functions under the Act of the gene technology advisory committee, of the gene technology consultative committee and the gene technology ethics committee. Part 9 deals with administration of the Act, Part 10 with enforcement and Part 11 with the powers of inspectors.
