Résumé

These Regulations, consisting of seven Parts and one Schedule, provides for food irradiation. They establish that: every Food Irradiation Facility set up in Sri Lanka; for all irradiated foods produced locally, whether for domestic consumption or for export; and for all imported food. The main objective of these regulations is to ensure that the requirement of food irradiation is achieved without risks to human health and the environment. In the implementation of this objective these regulations seek: to control pathogenic microorganisms and parasites in food; to reduce post-harvest losses of food caused by insects, microorganisms and physiological processes; to meet quarantine requirements in trades; to extend marketability of food; and to ensure safe operation of food irradiation facilities. The Schedule lists Minimum and Maximum Doses of Irradiation.
