"food fortification" is defined as the addition of one or more essential nutrients to a food whether or not it is normally contained in the food, for the purpose of preventing and correcting a demonstrated deficiency of one or more nutrients in the population or specific population groups. The Regulations refer to Zimbabwe food fortification standards for each product to identify requirements. Food fortificants and premixes, shall be chosen among those approved by the Secretary of Health and Child Care. Furthermore the Regulations provides for labeling, transport, storage and display of fortified food. Penalties and inspection are also considered.
