Résumé

This Fishery Management Plan (FMP) of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council governs groundfish fisheries of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area (BSAI). The FMP management area is the United States EEZ of the Bering Sea and a portion of the North Pacific Ocean adjacent to the Aleutian Islands. The FMP covers fisheries for all stocks of finfish and marine invertebrates except salmonids, shrimps, scallops, various crab species, corals, clams, Pacific halibut, and Pacific herring. The North Pacific Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional councils established by the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in 1976 to manage fisheries in the 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone. The Magnuson-Stevens Act contains ten national standards, with which all FMPs must conform and which guide fishery management. FMPs must also be consistent with the requirements of other legislation such as the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. Climate change-induced effects are taken into account in fishery management measures. Pursuant to Title II of the Magnuson-Stevens Act, there is no allowable level of foreign fishing for the groundfish fisheries covered by this FMP.
