Résumé

These Regulations comprising 15 Articles, aim to establish a framework to facilitate sustainable investment and to provide uniform criteria for determining whether an economic activity is environmentally sustainable. According to the Regulations, an economic activity is environmentally sustainable if it meets the following conditions (a) it contributes substantially to one or more of the six environmental objectives, namely: climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources, transition to a circular economy, pollution prevention and control, and protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems; (b) it does not significantly harm any of the other environmental objectives; (c) it complies with minimum social and governance safeguards; (d) it complies with technical screening criteria established by the Commission. The Regulations also aim to increase transparency and reduce greenwashing by requiring certain financial market participants and undertakings to disclose information on how and to what extent their activities are aligned with the criteria for environmentally sustainable activities.
