The Hawaii fishery management area is divided into subareas. Regulations concern, among other things, permits for the fishing for bottomfish, Total Allowable Catch, additional measures for protected species conservation, gear restrictions, at-sea observer coverage. They also concern Hawaii coral reef ecosystem fisheries (including fishing for specified shark species) and designates a management area for a specific management regime. Management measures include restrictions of use of gear, compliance with the Hawaii Fishery Ecosystem Plan (FEP) and related permitting. Other matters of these Regulations include management of crustacean fishery, monk seal protective measures, precious coral fisheries, closed seasons, and landing of fish.
