They prescribe standards for water intended for human consumption and the patterns and frequency of analyses required in order to monitor such standards. Water intended for human consumption shall meet the quality standards specified in Part 1 of the Schedule. It shall be the duty of a sanitary authority to take the necessary measures to ensure that water intended for human consumption meets the requirements of these Regulations, except where situations arising from the nature and structure of the ground in the area from which the water supply in question emanates or situations arising from exceptional meteorological conditions allow departure from this rule. In addition, the sanitary authority shall ensure that any substances used in the preparation of water for human consumption do not remain, in concentrations higher than admissible, in water made available to the user, and that they do not, directly or indirectly, constitute a public health hazard. A sanitary authority shall regularly monitor the quality of water intended for human consumption at the point where it is made available to the user.
