Résumé

This is a subsidiary legislation of the Diseases of Animals Law of Enugu State. These Regulations are made by the Commissioner for Agriculture of the State to provide details on the handling of animals infected by diseases. These Regulations start off with extensive provisions on the isolation of diseased animals and their transportation. It contains obligations and responsibilities on the Local Government, animal owners and Veterinary Officers concerning the handling of diseased animals; of which Veterinary Officers are given a central role to play in the process of identifying and handling diseased animals. In addition to the power to seize and detain diseased animals, Veterinary Officers are empowered under these Regulations to also arrest persons who contravene the Regulations. The Regulations provide the penalty for contravention as a fine or imprisonment.
