Résumé This Directive consists of 10 articles and 2 Annexes. Articles 1 and 2 deal with terms and definitions. Article 3 specifies the field of application of this Directive (producers and transporters of hazardous waste; managers and owners of waste dumps). Article 4 provides for specific measures to be taken by producers of hazardous waste which are: (a) measures for gathering and storing hazardous waste; (b) emergency plans; (c) conditions for keeping and protecting registers as well as preparing reports; (d) necessary measures for the transportation of hazardous waste; and, (e) general precautionary measures and arrangements for wrapping hazardous waste. Article 5 defines specific measures to be taken by transporters of hazardous waste. Article 6 deals with specific requirements for the management of empty packages. Article 7 defines specific requirements and conditions for managers and owners of dumps destined to the treatment, storage and elimination of hazardous waste. Article 9 entrusts the Director-General of General Foundation for Environment Protection to issue necessary Annexes, Forms and Schedules for the implementation of this Directive. Article 10 contains offences and penalties. Annex 1 lists examples of incompatible chemicals. Annex 2 is the manifest for the transportation and disposal of hazardous waste.
