Résumé The present Regulation is made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In particular, the Regulation significantly increases safety requirements as they relate to the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in buildings and to the handling of asbestos. The Regulation calls for the : 1) Establishment of an ongoing asbestos management programme to control the exposure to airborne asbestos in buildings; Inspection of building materials, preparation and maintenance of a record of the locations of friable and non-friable ACM; 3) Periodic re-inspection of ACM and undertaking remedial action on ACM that has deteriorated; 4) Provision of the record of the locations of ACM to all prospective contractors prior to the tendering of work which could disturb ACM. The text – consisting of 24 sections – deals, inter alia, with the following aspects: adoption of standard, information for workers, ongoing asbestos management in buildings, asbestos abatement training programmes, asbestos work report, asbestos Workers Register, use of equivalent measure or procedure, notice to inspector.
