Résumé

The present Regulation is made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In particular, the Regulation significantly increases safety requirements as they relate to the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in buildings and to the handling of asbestos. The Regulation calls for the : 1) Establishment of an ongoing asbestos management programme to control the exposure to airborne asbestos in buildings; Inspection of building materials, preparation and maintenance of a record of the locations of friable and non-friable ACM; 3) Periodic re-inspection of ACM and undertaking remedial action on ACM that has deteriorated; 4) Provision of the record of the locations of ACM to all prospective contractors prior to the tendering of work which could disturb ACM. The text – consisting of 24 sections – deals, inter alia, with the following aspects: adoption of standard, information for workers, ongoing asbestos management in buildings, asbestos abatement training programmes, asbestos work report, asbestos Workers Register, use of equivalent measure or procedure, notice to inspector. Three Tables are enclosed.
