Forest concessions shall be the rights granted to manage forests in a forest area covering activities such as wood felling, reafforestation and forest maintenance, forest product processing and marketing in accordance with a working plan (art. 1(1)). Applications can be filed by state-owned companies and (private) Limited Liability Companies. Concessions can be granted on permanenent production forest areas, limited production forest areas or forest areas declared as permanent production forest areas carrying no other rights (art. 2). Survey of the concession area under the guidance of the Director General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation and an environment impact assessment shall form part of the application procedure.
