This Decree enters into force 90 days after its publication.
Résumé

The purpose of this Regulation is the safety of dams, establishing criteria for the control of this safety, rules that allow the articulation of the functions and activities of the different entities responsible for this control and requirements for the design of dam projects, their construction, first filling, exploration and abandonment of structures. This Regulation aims to guarantee the reliability of works, in order to reduce the possibility of accidents occurring and, in the event of an accident, reduce the risk to life, health and property and environmental assets, as well as defining the mechanisms for civil liability. As complements to this Regulation, standards for the design, construction, operation, observation and inspection of dams will be established. This Regulation applies to large dams and other dams with medium or high potential damage, in accordance with the indicated criteria. In this Regulation, dams are classified according to the following criteria: a) Vulnerability index; b) Potential damages associated with them; c) Risk class.
