The main tasks of the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection shall be as follows: (a) public administration in the field of ecology, environmental protection, rational use and reproduction of natural resources; (b) maintenance of a favorable ecological condition of the environment, protection of ecological systems, natural complexes and separate objects, improvement of the ecological situation; (c) the implementation of state control over compliance with legislation in the field of waste management, the organization of an effective system for collecting, transporting, managing, processing and disposal of domestic waste in close cooperation with state authorities in the field and local government; (d) state environmental control over compliance with legislation in the field of protection and use of land, mineral resources, waters, forests, protected natural areas, flora and fauna, protection of atmospheric air; (e) coordination of work on ecology and environmental protection, ensuring inter-agency cooperation in the development and implementation of a unified environmental and resource-saving policies; (f) keeping the state register in the sphere of ecology and environmental protection, as well as state registration of nurseries for the breeding and maintenance of wild fauna and flora species, zoological and botanical collections; (g) organization of ecological education, ecological propaganda, retraining and advanced training of specialists in the field of ecology and environmental protection; (h) prevention of offenses in the sphere of environmental protection, rational use of natural resources and waste management; (i) ensuring close interaction with the public institutions and civil society organizations in matters of ecology and environmental protection, citizens' rights to a favorable environment.
