The annexed Regulation, composed of 30 articles divided in seven Chapters, defines norms for the prevention, control, mitigation and compensation of adverse effects that mining activity might cause to environment, with the view of sustainable development of such activity. In particular, it defines roles and competences between all relevant national bodies and institutes a Consultative Committee for the monitoring of the specific projects envisaged by the regulation. Moreover, it provides specific environmental protection measures according to the classification of mining activities provided in the Mining Act. Furthermore, it defines the required environmental management instruments, such as, for instance, the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and the use of licenses. Finally, it recalls all specific environmental protection measures required by national legislation and applicable to water, air, noise/vibrations, waste and protected areas. The Regulation rules on inspection procedures and applicable penalties.
