Résumé

Decree to implement provisions of the MARPOL Convention of 1973 and the additional Protocol of 1987. It applies to all Norwegian and foreign ships that are present in the territorial sea and economic zone of Norway with exception to those ships listed in article 1.4. Chapter II contains general rules relative to the prevention of pollution by oil and specific provisions regarding oil discharge during navigation and limitation of damage in the case of oil outflow from the bow or side of the ship, and further concerns Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plans (Part IV). Remaining provisions (Chapters IV and V) concern other forms of pollution. Schedule A specifies rules for the construction and installation of "part flow" systems. Schedule B contains requirements for the assessment of damage. The procedures to be followed in notifying accidents by the person responsible for the ship are those laid down by Decree No. 231 of 1987 relative to reporting of maritime accidents.
