Résumé This Decree-Law, consisting of 19 articles, creates the Portuguese Institution of Sea and Atmosphere (so called IPMA), which competencies are under the Ministry of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Land planning. The duties and responsibilities of this Institution deal with the following: sciences and technologies in marine resources sector, fisheries, aquaculture and fish processing industries, meteorology, climate, marine biology, marine geophysics, maritime services and safety in order to contribute to the development of new areas of activity and uses of the Atlantic Ocean.
