Résumé The purpose of this Decree-Law is to establish the framework law for animal health and welfare, prevent the introduction and spread of animal diseases in the territory of Timor-Leste, control the spread and eradication of animal diseases, control the movement of animals, animal products animal origin and related articles, upon entry and exit into Timor-Leste, facilitate trade, enable animal welfare, protect public health, regulate veterinary products and create an animal identification system. It applies to the entire national territory. Its objectives are: a) Protect and promote the health of terrestrial and aquatic animals and ensure biosecurity to prevent the introduction and spread of animal diseases; b) Facilitate trade, particularly the import and export of animals and products of animal origin; c) Carrying out epidemiological surveillance, control and eradication of diseases of great economic and/or public health importance; d) Regulate compensation for losses caused by animal diseases; e) Serve as a basis for observing animal welfare conditions; f) Protect public health.
