Résumé

The intention of this Decree-law is the development of viticulture and fruit production and the further improvement of Hungarian wine quality. Vineyards and orchards for mass production may be planted only with prior authorization and using planting materials of specified varieties, in adequate areas. The Ministry of Agriculture can specify the distance between plants in a plantation and the boundary of the estate. Felling of grapevines and fruit-trees may be subject to ministerial authorization. Hunting in vineyards and orchards is prohibited from 1 July each year until the completion of harvest. Title II deals with the production, treatment and marketing of must, wine and brandy. Only permitted quantities of authorized ingredients may be used and specified practices should be applied for the production and treatment of must, wine and brandy. Otherwise they should be considered adulterated. Marc-wine can not be marketed. Wines should be marketed only if the denomination indicates the real place of origin (wine production areas, commune, growing place), variety, quality, vintage, and the name of the producer or the cellar. Special quality wines can be marketed only using state control stamps. Certain wine production areas can be declared as "closed". Special provisions to be applied in those areas can be elaborated. The wine production area at the foot of the Tokaj Hill is a closed area. The observation of these provisions is controlled by State administrative bodies. The principal Law was amended by Law No. IV of 1976 and Decree-laws No. 3 of 1979 and No. 25 of 1981.
