Résumé

The present Decree lays down rules on the functions, tasks and duties of the Swedish National Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket). The Agency shall work in the interests of consumers for healthy dietary habits, safe foods and fair practices in the food trade. Its authority also covers drinking water. The Agency is also the competent authority in relation to a series of EU regulations in the food sector, and is the competent authority when it comes to environmental issues in the food sector. Among other things, the Agency shall: 1. Work for a risk-based, efficient and equal food control throughout the country; 2. Lead, coordinate and follow up on food control; 3. Conduct surveys of food and eating habits, perform analyzes, develop methodologies, and perform risk and benefit assessments in the food sector; 4. Inform consumers, businesses and other stakeholders on the current legislation, dietary guidelines and other important aspects of the food sector; 5. Facilitate and create favorable conditions for businesses in the food sector; 6. Work for exporting food companies to meet specific requirements that importing countries can set; 7. Coordinate infant nutrition issues including breastfeeding; 8. Promote consumers', especially children's and young people's opportunities to make informed choices when it comes to healthy and safe food; 9. Encourage the development of meals in healthcare, education and elderly care; 10. Promote the environmental quality goals set by the parliament and, if necessary, propose environmental measures.
