The functions of the Authority are: to facilitate the maintenance and development of the dairy industry; to develop and implement policies to achieve, as far as practicable, economies in the dairy industry; advise the Minister; to promote the health and productivity of dairy herds, etc. A person shall not carry on business as a dairy farmer or as a processor of market milk unless that person holds a licence in force under this Act. The Authority may grant an application for a licence subject to any conditions the Authority considers appropriate. The Authority, with the approval of the Minister, may make Codes of Practice for the industry.
