The Regulation entered into force on 23 October 2001.

Résumé

The purpose of this Regulation is to lay down control and inspection measures relating to fishing for stocks of the highly migratory fish species mentioned in Annex I (such as bluefin tuna, sailfish, swordfish, dolphinfish, shark, certain cetaceans, etc.). The provisions hereby laid down shall apply to fishing vessels flying the flag of Member States, and registered in the Community, which operate in one of the three zones defined in article 2. The Regulation is divided into three Chapters, each of them establishing specific control and inspection measures applicable in the aforementioned Zones 1, 2 and 3. Such control measures include duty to report catch data to the Commission, observation of vessels, port inspection.
