Résumé This Directive, which consists of four Sections, deals with surveys to be carried out by Member States with respect to the pig population. For the purposes of this Directive, the term “pig” means domestic animal of the species Sus. Section I concerns surveys of the pig population, to be carried out annually. The surveys shall cover all pigs held on agricultural holdings. They shall be conducted in such a manner as to provide a detailed analysis of the pig population into at least the following categories: (1) piglets with a live weight of less than 20 kg; (2) pigs with a live weight of 20 kg or more, but less than 50 kg; (3) fattening pigs; (4) breeding pigs. Section II concerns slaughtering statistics. Member States shall elaborate monthly statistics relating to the number and carcase weight of pigs slaughtered on the slaughterhouses of their territories for the purpose of production of meat destined to human consumption. Section III regards production forecasts of the supply of pigs. The Member States shall forward to the Commission the data referred to in Articles 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13. The Commission shall examine, in consultation with the Member States: (a) the results supplied; (b) the technical problems which arise, in particular in preparing and carrying out the surveys and forecasts; (c) the reliability of the survey results and estimates (art. 14).
