Résumé

The present Directive makes provision in matter of processing and placing on the market of cocoa and chocolate products. For the purposes of this Directive, cocoa and chocolate products shall mean the products intended for human consumption defined in Annex I, which also establishes the maximum allowable content of certain substances (such as sucrose) in chocolate products and the permitted treatments (such as centrifuging and filtration). Member States shall take all necessary measures to ensure that such products may be offered for sale only if they conform to the definitions and rules hereby laid down. Article 3 concerns sales names. In accordance with article 4, cocoa beans which are not sound, wholesome and in good market conditions, shells, germs or any other residual products from the solvent-extraction of cocoa butter may not be used in the manufacture of chocolate products. Article 6 determines the individual weights in which the types of chocolate referred therein may be sold. Article 7 establishes the information that shall compulsorily appear in the packages, containers or labels. This Directive shall also apply to products imported from third countries and intended for consumption within the Community.
