Article 2 establishes that the Office is, inter alia, responsible for: 1) Prevention and protection measures in the field of food safety and consumer protection, in particular with regard to food, tobacco products, cosmetics and other consumer products, pesticides and biocides, animal feed and feed additives, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, which are intended for use in animals, including their manufacture and transport; 2) Participation in the preparation and support of monitoring programmes and plans of the Länder; 3) Preparation and reporting with a view to inspection and monitoring of certain hazardous substances; 4) Authorization and registration of drugs intended for use in animals except animal vaccines.
