Résumé

These Commission guidelines relate to the prudent use of antimicrobials in animals, and, in particular, how prudent usage can contribute to containing the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The purpose of these guidelines is to provide practical guidance for Member States on the development and implementation of strategies to promote the prudent use of antimicrobials, especially antibiotics, in veterinary medicine, in accordance with Action 3 of the Commission's action plan. These measures may also contribute to and complement the control of AMR in human medicine. In this document, the term “antimicrobial” has been used generically to encompass antibiotics and antibacterial agents, but excludes antivirals and antiparasitics.
