This Act introduces some measures for the preservation of coconut plantations. The Act shall apply to such area or areas as the Minister shall, by notice in the Gazette, direct. The owner of dead trees or trees attacked by pests shall immediately uproot and destroy such trees in accordance with Rules made under this Act or, in the absence of Rules, in accordance with directions of an inspector. It shall be an offence to act against Rules or instructions of an inspector or not to destroy dead trees or vegetable refuse within a given time. Various powers of an inspector are defined, including the power to serve a notice on the owner of a plantation to keep the plantation free of bush under coconut trees so as to prevent fire.
