This Law shall come into effect immediately.
Résumé

This Law provides for the establishment of the Chittagong Port Authority. For the purposes of this Act, the Chittagong Port Authority established under the Chittagong Port Authority Ordinance, 1976 (Ordinance No. LII of 1976) shall be called the Chittagong Port Authority and shall continue as if it had been established under this Act. The Authority shall be a statutory body and shall have a permanent continuance and a general seal and, with the prior approval of the Government, shall have the power to acquire, possess and transfer property, both movable and immovable, and the authority may file a suit in its own name and may also be sued in that name. The functions of the Authority shall be as follows, namely:- (a) operate, manage, develop, expand and preserve ports; (b) To take appropriate and effective measures, including identification and preservation of the entrance to provide all services and facilities related to the port; (c) control the movement, anchoring and other related activities of all types of shipping within the port; (d) procure, build, maintain and operate the necessary manpower; And (e) For the purposes of this Act, to perform other functions necessary for the purpose of carrying out the functions of the Port.
