The provisions of the Agreement cover the whole value chain, namely the production, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution and marketing of food. The objectives of the Corporation are: (I) increasing agricultural production, (II) reducing the dependency on import of agricultural products, (III) improving farming methods and practices, (IV) facilitating the transportation, distribution and marketing of the products within and without the Region, (V) promoting small farming enterprises and increasing their capacities, and (VI) using advanced technology to implement a viable and efficient import replacement scheme, in order to achieve self-sufficiency in food and to raise nutritional levels within the Region without displacing or competing with national efforts.
