Résumé

The objectives of this Agreement are to: a) foster cooperation and coordination between the Parties concerning the environmental assessment of projects while meeting the requirements of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and of the Quebec Environment Quality Act; b) to describe the roles and responsibilities of the Parties in implementing cooperative environmental assessments, thereby achieving more efficient use of public and private resources. The text – consisting of 21 sections deals, inter alia, with the following matters: coordination of the Agreement, preliminary consultations, determination of environmental assessment responsibilities, cooperative environmental assessments, Joint Review Panel, coordination of decisions and announcements, sharing of expertise, relationship between this Agreement and aboriginal peoples, transboundary considerations, resolution of disputes between the parties and duration of the agreement. Two Annexes complete the Agreement.
