Résumé This Act lays down rules for the establishment, functions, structure and funds of the Bureau of Standards and its Board; development, approval and publication of a Vanuatu Standard; enforcement and compliance; obligations of importer, seller and supplier for commodities subject to mandatory standard; and offences and penalties. The main function of the Bureau is to develop and maintain a National Norm in harmonization with relevant international or regional standards for the development of the Vanuatu Standards as approved by the Board, which is to be published as a Vanuatu Standard. A Vanuatu Standard that refers to any commodity which may affect public safety, health or environmental protection, may be declared as a mandatory standard by the Minister. Moreover, the Minister may make Regulations for carrying into effect the purposes and provisions of this Act, to provide for matters relating to packing, labelling, description and advertising of any commodity for which a standard has been declared; matters relating to inspection, taking samples testing commodities; the seizure and forfeiture of articles; and for matters which by this Act are required to be prescribed or which are necessary or convenient to be prescribed.
