Résumé

This Order makes provision for the control of the bee diseases: American foul brood, European foul brood and Varroosis. It provides for samples of bees, combs and hive debris to be submitted to the Department of Agriculture to see if they are free from infection (arts. 4(2) and 5(1)). If the presence of American foul brood, European foul brood or Varroosis is confirmed, the Department may serve on the beekeeper from whose hive the sample was taken a notice requiring the destruction, treatment or, in the case of Varroosis, isolation of the hive, of any bees, combs, quilts, bee-products or appliances. Such a notice may also be served on any beekeeper whose hives, combs, quilts, bee-products or appliances appear to have been exposed to American foul brood, European foul brood or Varroosis (arts. 7, 8 and 9). The Department may serve on any beekeeper in an infected area a notice requiring the destruction, treatment or isolation of his hive, bees, etc.; prohibit the movement of such things into, from or within an infected area (unless licensed); and may require beekeepers to provide certain information concerning the whereabouts of such things belonging to them or in their charge (art. 9(3) and the Schedule). Any person who: (a) moves any bees or other things within Northern Ireland in contravention of this Order; or (b) otherwise contravenes or fails to comply with the provisions of this Order or any condition imposed by any licence issued under this Order; shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £1,000.
