Résumé The Act provides for regulations on protection of animals as fellow creatures and determines responsibility of human beings against animals in order to avoid give pain, cause damage and suffer to animals. The Act provides provisions on keeping, looking after and killing animals. The federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture is authorised to provide ordinances for the protection of animals. The Act consists of 22 articles divided into 12 Parts: Principles (I); Livestock farming (II); Killing of animals (III); Operations on animals (IV); Experiments with animals (V); Animal welfare officer (VI); Breeding, keeping animals, trading in animals (VII); Movement, traffic and keeping prohibitions (VIII); Other provisions for the protection of animals (IX); Implementation of the Law (X); Penalties (XII).
