The Act covers "animals", as prescribed for the purposes of this Act, and "aquatic animals" which are defined as fish, aquatic vertebrates or aquatic invertebrates. "Infectious or contagious disease" means tuberculosis, brucellosis, swine plague, caseous lymphadenitis, equine encephalomyelitis, foot rot in sheep, distemper in fur bears and any disease or endoparasite or ectoparasite that the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGC) declares to be an infectious or contagious disease for the purpose of this Act." (sect. 1). The Act also sets out powers and duties of inspectors, including quarantine, animal testing and tagging, pasteurization of milk of isolated animals, offences and penalties, regulatory powers of the LGC.
