This Act applies in relation to: (a) all ships, irrespective of the places of residence or domicile of their owners; and (b) all maritime claims, wherever arising. Claims shall include a claim under the Part II or IV of the Protection of the Sea (Civil Liability) Act 1981 and the Protection of the Sea (Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage) Act 2008. The Act also provides for, among other things, the power of a court to deal with ship or other property, damages for unjustified arrest etc, priority in general maritime claims, statutory powers of detention of a ship and regulation-making powers of the Governor-General.
