Therefore, the Government has taken major steps towards creating an employment-friendly policy regime by addressing the issue of inadequate aggregate demand and finding ways to stimulate employment-intensive growth, inter alia, through: i) Recognition of the importance of economic growth in the employment and job creation strategy framework; ii) Integration of employment concerns into macroeconomic and sectoral policies: employment is now an objective of the development plan and employment outcomes are integrated into the development strategy. The 2013 Budget has set a global target of one million new jobs to be created over a five-year period; iii) Promotion of the growth of sectors and economic activities that are employment generating: the employment and job creation strategy is embedded in the growth of six sectors with the greatest job creation potential: agriculture, livestock and fisheries; tourism; construction; manufacturing; energy and mining.
