Résumé

This Act amends the Act on Fishing and Processing by Foreign Vessels in Iceland’s Exclusive Fishing Zone in particular in section 3 regarding access of foreign fishing and support vessels to ports of Iceland. It seeks to prevent principally the landing of fish originating from IUU fishing activities. Ships involved in illegal fishing shall be barred from landing or transship catch in Icelandic ports. Buyers of catch, as well as agents, exporters, carriers, banks, credit institutions and public institutions are obliged to inform the Ministry of the Directorate of Fisheries for purposes of enforcement of this rule. The Act also provides with respect to exchange of information with flag states and flag state confirmation of the status of the vessel in question.
