This is apparent in the sector of water quality. In an exercise in ' subsidiarity ' the European Commission has proposed three framework Directives - on the quality of water intended for human consumption; the quality of bathing water and the ecological quality of surface water - intended to replace existing water quality laws. This paper discusses the significance for Poland of the deregulation of water quality standards within the European Union should the essence of these proposals be enacted into law
