Resumen

This Act applies whenever judicial or arbitration proceedings relating to salvage of ships and aircraft are brought in Namibia. The Act regulates jurisdictional matters. It also sets up a series of obligations: to assist ships/aircrafts in distress as well as to render assistance to persons in danger at sea. It establishes the duty of the masters of ships in collision and assigns to the the Minister the faculty to appoint suitably qualified persons to be salvage officers at ports or other places in Namibia in respect of any defined area. The Act regulates, more generally, all the aspects inherent to the salvage operations ( powers of salvage officers, interfering with wrecked ship or aircraft, salvage contracts, duties of salvors and of owners and masters of ships, conditions for reward etc.)
