Horses, which meat is destined for export in the Russian Federation, must pass veterinary inspection prior slaughter, while carcasses and internal organs must pass veterinary and sanitary expertise after slaughtering. Both the proceedings must be conducted by veterinary institution of the exporting country. Meat must be certified as suitable for public feeding. Carcasses of the horses must bear distinctive stamp of state veterinary survey marking either the name or the number of the meat processing and packing factory where the horses have been slaughtered. Cut meat must be labelled (bear veterinary stamp) on either package or poly-block. Marked label must be stuck in such a way as to make it impossible to open package without damaging it. Horseflesh is admitted to the territory of the Russian Federation on condition that it derives from horses that have not been fed by feedstuffs with the use of genetically modified additives or other genetically modified sources. Package and packing materials must be valid for one occasion only and must comply with the sanitary requirements in force in the country of origin. The compliance with these Veterinary and sanitary requirements must be certified by veterinary certificate, signed by the state veterinary inspector of the exporting country and composed in the language of the country of origin and in Russian. Dispatch of horseflesh to the Russian Federation is possible only after the authorization issued to the importer by Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
