Entry into force notes
Section 104 comes into force on 1 January 2006. The rest of this Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
Resumen

The purpose of this Act, consisting of 6 Parts and two Schedules, is to protect the public interest by aiming to ensure that veterinarians are competent to practise; and, for that purpose: (a) to continue the Veterinary Council of New Zealand; and (b) to state the Council’s functions; and (c) to provide the Council with the powers to: (i) register people qualified to practise as veterinarians; and (ii) issue practising certificates to specialists and people qualified to practise as veterinarians; and (iii) set and implement standards for veterinary performance; and (iv) monitor performance and, if necessary, discipline veterinarians and certain other people. Part 2 specifies Registration requirements and practising certificates, as well as entitlement to registration designating any branch of veterinary science as a branch in respect of which a veterinarian may practise as a specialist.
