Powdered micronutrients are packaged individually in the form of sachets (1g) and must be added and mixed to food preparations, mandatorily at the time the child is to eat. Food can easily be fortified at home or elsewhere, such as day care centres and schools. Fortification with micronutrients powder is as effective as iron supplements in the treatment of anemia, however, it is better accepted because of the reduced side effects when compared to the administration of iron supplement alone. The composition of the NutriSUS sachet distributed by the Ministry of Health presents 15 micronutrients. The table below shows the composition of the product that will be used in Brazil.
