The Bureau shall promote and encourage the maintenance of standards for goods or services produced or used in Saint Lucia and for other purposes set out in section 4. The general administration of the Bureau shall be carried out by the Standards Council, which shall advise the Minister on the appointment of the Chief Executive of the Bureau. The Bureau may declare standards pursuant to section 18. A standard may be voluntary or compulsory (sect. 19). The Minister shall prescribe a standard mark of the Bureau under section 20. The mark may be used by producers etc. after having obtained consent of the Bureau (sect. 22). Section 23 provides for testing of compliance with standard of goods. Section 24 prohibits placing on the market or exportation of goods that fail to meet a compulsory standard. Section 25 provides for examination of imported goods.
