Entry into force notes
This Act enters into force on the date of its signature by the President (July 7, 2011).
Resumen

This Act, consisting of 40 Articles organized into XI Chapters, is designed to establish and govern the Southern Sudan Urban Water Corporation. Its primary objectives are to efficiently manage water resources and fulfill both short-term and long-term urban water demand in Southern Sudan. The Corporation shall have the following main objectives (i) utilize the available water resources economically to provide for the water demand and to realize its development in proportion to the growing needs; (ii) benefit from international development in industry and water supply services; (iii) produce safe drinking water; (iv) seek water investments that will enhance its efficient running of business and manufacturing of instruments; (v) contribute in increasing Southern Sudan’s income and improvement of it’s services; (vi) realize annual revenues that will enable it execute its development plans; (vii) concluding contracts with any person by the provisions of the Law on Procurement. The Corporation's functions, duties, and powers include (i) producing safe drinking water and distributing it through a capable network according to agreements, contracts, and tariffs; (ii) offering consultancy, professional, and technical water-related services to both public and private sectors; (iii) establishing training and capacity-building centers; and providing capacity-building services and training to specified firms or individuals; (iv) enhancing the skills of workers through qualification, and modernizing work methods and equipment; (v) acquiring and managing land and real estate on behalf of the Government of Southern Sudan; (vi) manufacturing water instruments and equipment; (vii) educating people on the proper use of water supply equipment; (viii) promoting scientific research, particularly in water supply development.
