Resumen The Minister for Transport and Communications has made, after consultation with the Malta Maritime Authority, rules relative to the registration, marking of, and navigation by small ships. A "small ship" is ship of less than 24 metres in length used only within the waters of Malta, including small fishing vessels. No small ship shall be used in the internal or territorial waters of Malta unless such ship is registered under the Merchant Shipping Act or under the Fisheries Conservation and Management Act 2001, or unless such ship is registered or documented to the satisfaction of the Malta Maritime Authority under the law of any other country (reg. 3). Small ships shall be registered by the Executive Director responsible for Yachting Centres, who may also order a survey of the ships to be registered. A certificate of registration shall be issued upon registration (reg. 13). Regulation 22 provides for the marking of small ships. Caiques and other fishing crafts shall carry such marks and numbers assigned thereto by the Department responsible for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
