Resumen These Regulations shall apply to seagoing Jamaican ships wherever they may be and foreign ships in Jamaican waters and to seafarers employed in seagoing Jamaican ships, in accordance with the Seafarer's Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Code adopted by the 1995 Conference of Parties to the STCW Convention. In addition to this, war ships, fishing vessels, pleasure craft, wooden ships of primitive build, and seafarers employed in war ships are not in the scope of these Regulations. These Regulations lay down procedures and principles for training and certification of seafarers employed in seagoing Jamaican ships for their competency; mandatory minimum training requirements for specific assignments; issuance, formation, validity, and registration of certificates; administration and monitoring of training and assessment of seafarers and maintenance of quality standards; responsibilities and duties of companies, and masters and others in Jamaican and foreign ships; inspection of any ship in Jamaican port; and offences and penalties.
