Part I, Preliminary, is mainly devoted to the definition of the scope and the extent of the Act. Part II, Registration of Ships, is divided into four Divisions. Division 1 deals with the obligation to register, Division 2 is on registration certificates, Division 3 sets out the rules for identification of ships and division 4 gives the criteria governing nationality and national colours of vessels. Part III examines the question of transfers, transmissions and mortgages of ships. Parts IV and V deal with the administrative aspects of registration. Part IV is focused on the role of the registrar whereas Part V concentrates on the register of ships. Part VI contains miscellaneous provisions dealing in particular with the offences and their prosecution. The Act ends on Part VII: Transitional Provisions.
