Resumen

These Sanitary Rules and Regulations establish hygienic requirements for the quality of potable water, as well as rules for controlling the quality of water abstracted and supplied by centralized potable water supply systems in inhabited areas. They are destined for state executive bodies, local government, enterprises, organizations, officials and individual entrepreneurs whose activities are related to projecting, construction, management of water supply systems and potable water supply to the population, and also for the organizations performing state and departmental sanitary and epidemiological supervision. Quality of potable water supplied to the population must comply with the requirements set forth by these regulations. Potable water supply to the population shall be prohibited or suspended in the following cases: (a) within the established term of validity of temporary deviations from hygienic standards if the causes of deterioration of quality of potable water are not eliminated; and (b) the system of water supply does not provide abstraction and supply to the population of potable water which quality corresponds to the requirements of the present Sanitary rules, if there is a real risk for public health. Potable water must be epidemiologically safe and radiation free, free of chemical substances and have favorable organoleptic properties.
