The Regulation applies to islands, archipelagos, mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, estuaries, oceans, seas, underwater elements, government administration areas. According to the Regulation, the application of geographical names meets the following principles: using Indonesian language; using local or foreign languages only in case of traditional, religious, cultural or historical value of the element; using Roman alphabet; respecting ethnicity, religion, groups. The Regulation concerns: identification of operators, including: ministries, local governments and agencies; stages of implementation of geographical names, including definition of standards and verification of results; financial measures; governmental participation in international meetings related to geographical names.
